How to Celebrate Halloween During Lockdown

Halloween this year (like the rest of 2020) certainly won’t be the same, but that doesn't mean it has to be boring. As you know at Ellie Ellie, we like to make the most of every occasion and we want to help you do so too.

So whether you are having a small party at home (remember no more that 6), hosting a special dinner or going on a pumpkin search, I have put together some of my favourite ideas below to help you get in the Halloween spirit.

Recipes
1. Pumpkin Punch
Everyone loves starting the evening with a little tipple and this pumpkin punch looks amazing. Not only is the presentation pretty cool, but also with the mixture of rum, pomegranate and orange (yum!) it’s sure to be a hit with your guests!

2. Severed Toes In Bandages
I absolutely love these, not only because pigs in blankets might possibly be one of my favourite foods in the world, but look how cool they look! These would be perfect as a little snack to go along with the cocktails at the beginning of the evening.

3. Skeleton Gingerbread men
And to finish the evening off, a little twist on the traditional gingerbread man, a skeleton man! This will be perfect with a cup of coffee and as the recipe makes 30 cookies, they will keep you going for a number of days after!

Dressing Up For The Occasion
Another keen hobby of mine, which lots of you will also know is of course fancy dress. I LOVE IT. Give me any opportunity and I will be there head to toe in fancy dress (I have actually just bought a circus costume from H&M, I would highly recommended having a look at their collection there is some really cool stuff https://www2.hm.com/en_gb/search-results.html?q=costume

I personally feel it should be the law to wear fancy dress on the 31st (it is the law in the Ellie Ellie workshop!).  However, I understand it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, so we have a great collection of Halloween sweatshirts that will get you in the spooky spirit.

Halloween Movie Marathon
Who doesn’t love a scary movie around Halloween? The perfect way to spend an evening now that the nights are drawing in quickly and the temperature is dropping, with some yummy treats and a drink or two. A Halloween Movie Marathon is a really easy way to celebrate Halloween this year with your social bubble or group of 6 (depending where you are in the UK!).

We’ve got the perfect addition to your Halloween Movie Night this year – a FREE downloadable Halloween Movie Bingo game! Download and print off our bingo cards (you get 4 designs, but you can print off as many as you like), then choose your favourite Halloween / horror film and enjoy! Simply mark off each square when you see them on your screen.

You can choose either to celebrate getting a line, two lines, a full house or all three – it’s entirely up to you, but make sure they shout out BINGO! You can then choose a special prize for the winner.

Pumpkin trails
With social distancing being super important at the moment, we’re all being encouraged not to trick or treat in the normal fashion this year. Instead there are some really lovely ideas going around on social media about how to celebrate Halloween safely with the little ones.

My favourite idea I’ve seen is a group on Facebook called “The Big Neighbourhood Pumpkin Trail” (https://www.facebook.com/groups/695682491244696/) run by ARTventurers who are encouraging everyone to decorate their houses / windows with homemade pumpkins and spooky decorations. They then are suggesting that kids can get dressed up in their best Halloween fancy dress costumes and go on a pumpkin hunt around their local area.

Locally to us in Worthing, there is another Facebook group called “WOMAD Pumpkin Trail” https://www.facebook.com/groups/1796512840500064/ where they have created a map of all the roads in the area that have had someone confirm that they will be decorating their windows / houses, making super easy to plan your route (especially for those with little legs!).

I think this is such a wonderful idea, creating a really lovely community spirit in these tricky times and I can’t wait to head out with my little niece this Halloween weekend to find all the pumpkins in our neighbourhood!
FREE Digital Download Halloween Colouring Pages
To help our customers get involved with their local trails, we have designed some FREE downloadable colouring sheets! Simply download, print out, then get out all the art supplies and let the kids get creative with our Halloween colour templates. Whether they fancy colouring them in with paints, pencils or glitter it is entirely up to them.

After they are finished you can then use them to decorate the house or make a spooky window display for other little pumpkin hunters to find on their trail!

FREE Digital Download Halloween Scavenger Hunt
We also thought it would be really fun to do a Halloween Scavenger hunt when you are out and about pumpkin hunting, so we have another FREE download with a list of spooky things to find when on the trail. All you need to do is print them out, grab a pencil or pen and tick off the boxes as you spot the Halloween themed items / characters!

Don’t forget to tag us on social media by using our handle @ellieelliecouk when you are using your free downloads - We can’t wait to see all the different ways you use them with your family and friends!
